Since replacement projector lamps are made to very complicated specifications, operate under extremely high temperatures and very high pressures, it is important to be sure that the quality of the projector lamp module you are buying is not compromised. Compatible projector lamp modules (also known by the terms “Copy Lamps" and "Compatible Lamps") have been independently tested - are you prepared to accept reduced quality and performance as well as an identified safety risk? Other factors which can become a problem with compatible projector lamp modules are reductions in the operating life (number of hours of use) and output (brightness and colour performance).

  Lamp Types Available

It's interesting to know what the differences are between Original Lamps, Compatible lamps and Original “Pro-Gen Lamps”. Below is a summary of the different types of lamps available in the market today.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Replacement Lamps

Manufacturer original replacement lamps are produced by the original projector or rear projection television manufacturer. These original lamps use bulbs supplied by the worlds leading lamp manufacturers such as Philips and Osram.

Pro-Gen Original Lamps

Pro-Gen Original Lamp Modules (lamp & cage) are built using Original Philips and Osram bulbs. Pro-Gen offer a cost effective genuine alternative to an OEM lamp. They are manufactured in a quality controlled environment and to ISO9001 standards this ensures high performance levels at affordable prices.

Compatible Lamps (Copy Lamps)

Compatible lamps or “Copy Lamps” are produced by unregulated manufacturing companies. The Philips commissioned KEMA case study shows these lower cost alternatives do not offer performance comparable with that of the original lamp fitted to the projection unit when new. Both output quality and expected service life (number of hours use) are compromised - financially the net result is easy to deduce - a copy lamp may offer an initial cost saving for the purchaser, but the sting in the tail is a much higher running cost per hour.
